  8. DiskSweep for Windows is distributed in a self-extracting format
  9. as follows:

  11. NOTE:   This version of the archive does includes the Visual Basic
  12.     runtime, VBRUN200.DLL from Microsoft.  If your system 
  13.     already has this file, you can download DSWNVB1.EXE which 
  14.     does not contain it and is a little smaller.

  16. DSWVB1.EXE  -- A self extracting compressed archive file.

  19.     README.1ST   -- Instructions for building the setup files.
  20.     DSWVB2.EXE   -- Self extracting archive containing program 
  21.             setup files.
  22.     README.TXT   -- Update and bug fix information.

  24. Instructions:

  26.     By now, you should already have extracted the DSWVB1.EXE
  27.     archive into the files README.1ST (this file) and DSWVB2.EXE.
  28.  
  29.     DSWVB2.EXE is another archive containing the equivalent 
  30.     of a Windows setup floppy.  We suggest you decompress this 
  31.     file in either a separate installation directory or onto a 
  32.     blank formatted floppy.  To extract the setup files from 
  33.     DSWVB2.EXE, type DSWVB2 at the DOS prompt.

  35.     For example:
  36.     1. Create a directory \dswinst and put DSWVB2.EXE in it.
  37.         >md \dswinst
  38.         >copy DSWVB2.EXE \dswinst\DSWVB2.EXE
  39.     2. Execute DSWVB2 at the DOS prompt.
  40.         >DSWVB2

  42.     Once you have done this, start Windows and then 
  43.     run SETUP.EXE from the installation directory or 
  44.     the floppy, depending on where you extracted the files.  
  45.     From Windows, in the Program Manager, run the SETUP.EXE 
  46.     program on the installation floppy.  To do this pull down 
  47.     the File menu and select Run from that menu.  In the
  48.     dialog box, fill in A:SETUP or B:SETUP, depending on which 
  49.     drive the floppy is inserted into.

  53.     PCTools' DiskFix program is incompatible with DiskSweep.  
  54.     DiskFix will mistakenly detect corrupted directory structures
  55.     and ERASE the entire hard disk.  Do not run DiskFix with 
  56.     DiskSweep installed.
  57.  
  58.     On some machines, the use of FASTOPEN will cause Windows to
  59.     freeze when DiskSweep is also running.  If you see this
  60.     happening, stop using FASTOPEN.

  62.     When copying files via Laplink, we suggest disabling the TSR,
  63.     DSWTSR.EXE as we have seen periodic timeouts in the data
  64.     transfer phase of Laplink.  The TSR can be disabled by simply
  65.     REM'ing it out of AUTOEXEC.BAT, or booting the PC clean from
  66.     FLOPPY when doing a Laplink type transfer.

  68.     There are no other known incompatibilities at this time.
